How To Build A Successful Website: Avoid The 3 Big Mistakes I Made

1: Believe That You Cannot Build Your Own Website

When I wanted a website but believed I could not build one myself, I was right.

On the other hand, once I started to build my website, I was also right believing that I could build a site.

Henry Ford said it best:

"Whether you believe you can, or you can't, you are right"

What initially stopped me from building my own website was not the reason I gave myself...that I lacked technical skills and know-how.

The real obstacle was my firmly held belief that I could not build my own website.

When I started to develop my own website, certainly the SBI tools and resources were immensely helpful.

But they would have been totally useless had I continued to believe that I could not build my own website.

At some point, my attitude shifted from “I can't” to “I can”.

When that happened, I had overcome the real obstacle to building my own website.

I totally agree with Henry Ford's comment.

If you believe that you cannot build your own website, you are absolutely right.

On the other hand, if you believe that you can build your own website, I absolutely agree with you.

3. When All Else Fails...Follow The Instructions

When I started to build my SBI site, I thought I knew what my potential audience needed and wanted.

So I started to write to meet what I perceived these needs and wants to be.

To be perfectly honest, I revised some material that I had written for other purposes. I thought the finished content was great.

Unfortunately, the Search Engines did not agree with my evaluation of the content.

Most of these pages ranked so low that I doubt that any human being ever found them. Ouch!!

After a couple of coaching sessions, I changed my approach to preparing content...back to what I should have done had I meticulously followed the site-building instructions.

Happily, the traffic to my site has increased significantly sine the coaching-driven shift in approach.

And now that I well into building a second website, I am learning more about what I could have done better the first time through.

With experience being the great teacher it is, the lesson to be learned is to follow the site building instructions as meticulously as you possibly can.

In fact the more meticulously you follow the instructions, the more likely you will achieve your desired results...and achieve these results sooner.
