A
True Story With A Happy Outcome
Once upon a time
there was a bright young high school student named Larry.
Larry did well in
school...with marks consistently near the top of his class...but
without having to work hard to achieve these results.
Being personable,
Larry got along well with most people.
Coming from a family that
valued the status quo and took each day pretty much as it came, he
seldom caused problems or made waves.
A Good Job
When the time came
to decide what to do after high school, about the only only thing
Larry knew for sure was that he did not want to continue the family
tradition of 'getting a good job', most likely in a local factory
setting.
When he consulted
the school guidance counselor, Larry was advised that accounting
would be a good profession to pursue.
He did well in mathematics...an
accountant could always 'get a good job'...and as it turned out, the
counselor had just gotten off the phone with an accountant who was
looking for a bright young graduating student to join his firm.
At the time, a
career in accounting seemed to make sense..so Larry pursued the
opportunity... got the job and started working in accounting.
But it was not a
happy fit.
Although Larry had
enjoyed solving problems in high school mathematics classes, he found
the arithmetic calculations of book-keeping...the fist stage of
accounting...boring.
After a few months,
Larry realized that accounting was not a good career choice...and
made plans to leave his 'good job' and attend university.

Post-secondary
Education
The main attraction
of university was more the easy availability of financial assistance
than a burning desire to prepare for a career.
After an exciting
and energizing undergraduate period, Larry reached a familiar
point...what to do after graduation.
Once again he
consulted a school official...this time round it was the dean...who
recommended that Larry consider law school.
The dean explained that
law might be a good fit for Larry...and even if he chose not to
practice law, legal training would be useful in many other areas.
Much to his
surprise, Larry quite enjoyed practicing law...especially helping
clients resolve their legal problems...and also owners succeed in
their small businesses.
Satisfying as these
positive elements were, practicing law was not sufficiently engaging
and self-fulfilling for Larry to consider law as either his vocation
or a life-long career.

A Passion For
Writing
After almost 15 years of running his own law practice, Larry left
law, but continued helping owners succeed in their small businesses,
mostly as a consultant.
It was during this time that Larry finally found his true
passion...writing.
In itially he started writing for publication as a marketing strategy
for his growing consulting practice.
It was not long however, before
his main focus was writing, with consulting becoming a supplementary
activity.
In total, Larry published 7 books...4 by major
publishers such as
Doubleday, McGraw Hill and Prentice Hall....with 2 of these books
becoming best sellers.
One of Larry's consulting clients was a real estate broker who wanted to attract more and better agents to his office.
This consulting project included a survey
of the best marketing practices of high-producing real estate agents, which was the catalyst for this website.

My Own WebsiteI built this website myself using Site Build It!...or
SBI.
Although I was somewhat overwhelmed by the enormous volume of
information that I kept uncovering, what continued to hold my
attention was the large number of people who had built successful SBI
websites...without any technical skills or training.

The more I read about SBI, the more I realized that it was exactly
what I needed for my online marketing strategies....so I bought the
program and started building this site.
To learn
more about SBI, click here.
I have developed this
website...like thousands of other SBI
owners ...with no technical training or skills.
This site is now within the top
1% of all websites worldwide.
Last
month (March '11) the number of visitors was the highest ever with visitors from 134 countries.

The More Things Change...
As with all experiences, developing my own website has offered many rich learning opportunities.
Certainly I have learned the critical elements of building, marketing and maintaining a popular website.
To help you develop your own website, I have summarized what I have learned in Four Steps To Website Success.
As a result of preparing the website content, I have learned that the principles
of good marketing are as effective in Real Estate Marketing as they are
in all other areas of Small Business Marketing.
...The More They Stay the SameDespite
the technology-driven changes that greet us virtually every day,
the basic principles of marketing remain essentially the same.
Purely and simply, marketing is all about attracting customers and clients.
Obviously the best marketing attracts the most new business.
I developed...and continue to update...this website to offer the best marketing practices for small business.
Regardless
of what products or services you provide...or where you provide
them, the content on thus website will help you improve your marketing
and achieve better results.
