A
True Story With A Happy Outcome
Once upon a time
there was a bright young high school student named Larry.
Larry did well in
school...with marks consistently near the top of his class...but
without having to work hard to achieve these results.
Being personable,
Larry got along well with most people.
Coming from a family that
valued the status quo and took each day pretty much as it came, he
seldom caused problems or made waves.
A Good Job
When the time came
to decide what to do after high school, about the only only thing
Larry knew for sure was that he did not want to continue the family
tradition of 'getting a good job', most likely in a local factory
setting.
When he consulted
the school guidance counselor, Larry was advised that accounting
would be a good profession to pursue.
He did well in mathematics...an
accountant could always 'get a good job'...and as it turned out, the
counselor had just gotten off the phone with an accountant who was
looking for a bright young graduating student to join his firm.
At the time, a
career in accounting seemed to make sense..so Larry pursued the
opportunity... got the job and started working in accounting.
But it was not a
happy fit.
Although Larry had
enjoyed solving problems in high school mathematics classes, he found
the arithmetic calculations of book-keeping...the fist stage of
accounting...boring.
After a few months,
Larry realized that accounting was not a good career choice...and
made plans to leave his 'good job' and attend university.

Post-secondary
Education
The main attraction
of university was more the easy availability of financial assistance
than a burning desire to prepare for a career.
After an exciting
and energizing undergraduate period, Larry reached a familiar
point...what to do after graduation.
Once again he
consulted a school official...this time round it was the dean...who
recommended that Larry consider law school.
The dean explained that
law might be a good fit for Larry...and even if he chose not to
practice law, legal training would be useful in many other areas.
Much to his
surprise, Larry quite enjoyed practicing law...especially helping
clients resolve their legal problems...and also owners succeed in
their small businesses.
Satisfying as these
positive elements were, practicing law was not sufficiently engaging
and self-fulfilling for Larry to consider law as either his vocation
or a life-long career.

A Passion For
Writing
After almost 15 years of running his own law practice, Larry left
law, but continued helping owners succeed in their small businesses,
mostly as a consultant.
It was during this time that Larry finally found his true
passion...writing.
Initially he started writing for publication as a marketing strategy
for his growing consulting practice.
It was not long however, before
his main focus was writing, with consulting becoming a supplementary
activity.
In total, Larry published 7 books...4 by major
publishers such as
Doubleday, McGraw Hill and Prentice Hall....with 2 of these books
becoming best sellers.
Like many people, Larry connected with the real estate industry after
having pursued other career directions.
His introduction was a survey
of the best marketing practices of high-producing agents.
This survey led to
his report, How
Agents Succeed In Real Estate which in turn led
the following real estate marketing e-books:
- Astute
marketing
- Generating
Referrals
- Planning
Tools for Your Marketing Plan
- Working Smart

Online Marketing
Since first learning about
the Internet, Larry thought it would be an
ideal marketing vehicle for small businesses...including his own
writing and consulting practice.
However, like most owners of small business, he lacked the technical
skills to create a website. So Larry did what most other business
owners did...hired a techie to build a website for him.
After about a year and more than $2500...the site was almost
finished...very unfunctional....and not at all user-friendly...either
for Larry or the few visitors who managed to find the site.
To complicate the website situation...it was also time to renew the
domain name registration.

That Was
Then...This Is Now
The frustrations experienced with my first
website led to a
significant turning point..reversing a variety of frustrations that
had plagued me for most of my life.
In reviewing my website situation as it existed about a year ago...I
came to 2 conclusions:
One was that if I was to become more actively involved in online
marketing...as I most definitely planned...I had to learn a whole lot
more about website design and functionality.
And second, as a result of what I considered basic design flaws in my
first site, it was necessary to forget about the first
site...consider it a leaning experience...and start afresh with a new
site.
At the very least my research into website design and functionality
would enable me to know how to instruct the new web designer I had
lined up to replace the first design team.
It was during my research that I learned about Site Build It!...or
SBI.
Although I was somewhat overwhelmed by the enormous volume of
information that I kept uncovering, what continued to hold my
attention was the large number of people who had built successful SBI
websites...without any technical skills or training.
The more I read about SBI, the more I realized that it was exactly
what I needed for my online marketing strategies....so I bought the
program and started building this site.

Building This
Website
I have developed this
website...like thousands of other SBI
owners ...with no technical training or skills.
This site is now within the top
2 % of all websites worldwide.
Last
month (March '09) the number of visitors as 50% higher than the
preceding month, with visitors from more 50 countries.
Looking back at my SBI experience, I realize it is much more than
simply a system for building my own website.
For example, unlike my high school guidance counselor, the early
stages of the program led me through a decision-making process that
allowed me to clarify what I wanted to do...and what I had to do in
order to achieve those results.

Building Your
Website
I believe that everyone who runs a small business...or is even
thinking about starting one... regardless of what or where it
is...can build an SBI site.
Now that you have made it this far, you have
the necessary technical skills to build your own site.
If you are a real estate agent, you need your own unique website..if
not a community site.
If you are not a real estate agent but do run your own business, you
also need your own website.
Regardless of whether you are in deciding to build your own
site...anywhere from mildly curious to raring to start the
building...you will no doubt want more information.
Unfortunately, even if I wanted to...I could not give you the
information you need.
But
that's OK...SBI offers a wide range of
information to help you understand how you can build your own site.
The best...and probably easiest...place to start gathering this
information is this video.
