Belief
Leads to Achievement
Belief:
confidence in the truth or existence
of something that
cannot
be proven immediately
Belief is made
up of 3 essential
components:
- self-confidence
- confidence in the abundance of the
Universe
- openness to opportunities that the Universe
provides
Out
Of The Blue
“
If
you believe, you can achieve.”
That's
the surprising comment that Nina, a customer service
representative
(also known as a bank teller) made recently while I was in the branch.
There
were two reasons I found the comment surprising. The positive
approach of a bank employee was a refreshing change from the
negativity of many bank people.
A
few months ago I had the misfortune to deal with a manager who had
her mind made up and was not about to be confused by the facts of the
situation. So dealing with Nina was a very pleasant surprise.
The
timing of the comment was also a surprise. On the way to the bank, I
was thinking about how I would write about belief as a success factor.
Right out of the blue, Nina's response to my first question
was "I believe
I can do that". That
started our chat about belief.

Self-Confidence
Is Belief In Yourself
The
classic, perhaps most well-known comment about self-confidence, of
the lack of it, comes from Henry Ford:
“Whether
you think you can or think you can't - you are right.”
Many
others have made similar comments, including:
Norman
Vincent Peale:
“Without
a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be
successful or happy.”
Henry
David Thoreau
“What
a man thinks of himself, that it is which determines, or rather
indicates his fate. “
And
finally this comment from Ralph Waldo Emerson:
“All
that Adam had, all that Caesar could, you have and can do.... Build,
therefore, your own world.”
Regardless
of what you believe about yourself and your abilities, it is
impossible deny the importance of belief as a success
factor.

What
You Value Supports Your Self-Confidence
When
I started developing this site, I had absolutely no idea what the term
HTML stood for...let alone how to work with it.
This was not the first time that I had been faced a situation
like this.
Many
years ago, I didn't have a clue about DOS, ROM, bytes, C-drives and
countless other similar weird terms. But notwithstanding my total
illiteracy, I learned to use computers.
Because I had learned to
use computers a few years ago, I was confident that I could also learn
what I needed to develop this site.
And the more I learn
about developing the site, the more self-confident I become about
learning new applications. I am honestly excited about features that I
plan to add to the site.

Certainly my sense of self-confidence
comes from having achieved similar things in the past. But my
self-confidence is not based solely the experience of past
achievements.
At one level, learning to use a computer or web
technology is like learning how use a tool or piece of
equipment,
such a hammer, wood lathe or welder's torch. But...hammers bore
me...lathes and torches scare me.
Learning to use a computer and
how to apply web technology does more than please or
satisfy me.
It reinforces the rightness for me of such values as challenge, creativity
and independence...all
of which are important to me.
My
self-confidence comes from knowing that my current and future actions
are right for me. They reflect what I value...without any doubt
whatsoever.
