Don't Fear Success...Embrace ItThere is no reason to fear success...but every reason to celebrate it.Influenced largely by the belief that success was for other people, I resigned myself to accepting the mediocre results that came my way. As I began to learn more about success, I started to realize that it was not success itself that was fearful...just some versions of it. And with the combination of maturity and 20/20 hindsight, it wasn't as much fearing success as being totally turned off by some commonly promoted versions of it. In effect, the off-putting elements of what I perceived as success deterred me from pursuing success...as if I really did fear success. In retrospect, the highly promoted features that measured success for other people were not...and should not have been...my success standards. Similarly the actions that other people undertook to achieve their success, were not and should not have been my action plans. Realistically, there are only two universally applicable elements of success:
Define What Success Means To YouIn the simplest of terms, success means achieving what you desire. In other words, being successful means that you have brought about the results that you desire and value. To identify the results do you desire and value, simply review your personal core values and your business core values. Once you have identified these and similar core values, the next step is to set smart goals based on these values. Top Develop And Pursue Your Action PlanOnce you have determined the results that you would bring about...your goals...the next step is to develop a plan that will guide you though taking the actions necessary to achieve these goals. For business goals, your personal marketing plan is this action plan. Similarly, for personal goals, your personal growth plan outlines the action to be taken to achieve your goals. These plans both help increase your confidence in pursuing goals...and help you reduce, if not eliminate your fear of success. Once your plans are set, remember that it's important to continuously implement them. Top Keep It Simple...Make It PersonalMany people might fear success because they set goals that are far beyond what they themselves can achieve.By setting these excessively high and unreasonable expectations, they are more likely to be intimidated by the prospect of failure than the joy of achievement. ![]() By keeping your goals and plans simple and ensuring that they accurately reflect you, you can reduce any fear of success. As long as your goals reflect results that you truly desire, there is no reason to fear success...but every reason to celebrate your achieving your goals, in the manner that is best for you. Top
