Good Content Attracts

More Visitors To Your Site

Good content is the key to attracting visitors to your website. The better the content, the more visitors you will attract.

Do It Yourself

Without question, you are the best person to prepare content for your web site.

real_estate_webpageYou know your market, what your clients need, want and expect from you.

You also understand what distinguishes you from the competition and the value you deliver to clients.

Creating good content for your website means telling your story...your way.

Who else is as well qualified to tell your story as you?

Before you create the obstacle of not being a good writer, let me reassure you that if you can write an email message that other people can understand, you can write good reader-friendly content for your website.

It's true...you really can.

Although I have been writing content for books, articles, columns and a variety of other print media, when I started building this site, I knew nothing about preparing web content.

Very early in the development, I came across an e-book called Make Your Content Pre-Sell. Make Your Content Pre-Sell

Although focused on web content, this book is the best instructional book about writing that I have ever used...or even seen.

If you are reasonably intelligent and serious about preparing good content for your website...and you must be both or you would not have made it this far... Make Your Content Pre-Sell will help you prepare visitor-pleasing content for your website.

One more thing about Make Your Content Pre-Sell...it's free and instantly down-loadable.

How Much Content Is Enough?

question markThe best answer to this question is...as much as it takes to satisfy visitors to your site.

That means enough good content to hold them on your site as they explore 3, 4 or more pages...enough pages that they want to come back for another look.

It also means enough good content that they are prepared to recommend your site to others.

Initially it's a good idea to plan to create about 30 web pages of content.

By building 1 page a week, you can not only exceed this target in 6 months..you will have more...and probably better content than 95% of all websites
...worldwide.

Successful websites often have as many as 200 pages of good content.

But relax...websites are never totally finished...they continue to grow and develop.

You probably plan to stay in business for more than the 2-3 years it may take to achieve 200 pages of good content...so there is no urgency an creating a ton of content.

Take your time and make each page as good as you possibly can.

Less Is More

Of the many differences between preparing content for electronic format and content for hard copy format is the size limitation.

Hard-copy books, magazines and newspapers all have space limitations... which limits the size of the content each uses.

Typically, book content contains about 50,000 words... magazine articles range from about 1000 to 2500 words...and a normal newspaper column is about 700-800 words.

Electronic format...especially web content are seldom subject to the same space constraints. online_reading

For some people this represents a positive feature.

Without the customary size constraints of print media, these people can write as much as they think they need in order to make their points.

I know folks like this...and they firmly believe that people will read long articles if the content is interesting.

Possibly true...but the challenge is making the content sufficiently interesting to hold the readers' interest for the length of the message.

In terms of written material...whether in hard-copy or electronic format...I believe that less is more.

There is something about being forced to express ideas in 700-800 words that sharpens one's focus and eliminates excess verbiage.

I try to keep web pages under 1000 words in length. (This page is 816 words.)

Shorter pages require focusing on fewer themes...and writing more concisely.

Most web visitors are very busy. Few people have...or are prepared to take the time...to read long web pages.

If web content does not grab the reader's attention in the first few seconds, it's game over.

The visitor clicks off the non-engaging site, looking for another potentially more interesting site...or pursuing other tasks.

Clear concise content is more likely to grab and hold readers' attention than long overly wordy messages. concise content

For attracting visitors to your site, authorities agree that content is king.

The better your content, the more visitors you will attract...and the more likely they will be to revisit your site...and recommend it to others.

Realistically, you are the best person to prepare great content for your site.

Just make your content as good as your client service...and you are well on your way to a great website that attracts and satisfies lots of visitors.
