Last year (2008), at the beginning I sat down with our assistant manager to go over my goals but didn't really know what they were, therefore I struggled all year long.

This year (2009) our regular manager was back to work after a long illness and helped me patch things together and I feel like I am off to a much better start.

Not only that but when I put down on paper what I want to achieve this year I get to check them off as I do them.

That way it REALLY FEELS like I am making headway and will meet my goals.

Now that I figured out what they were!

Evelyn's reference to the importance of written goals is bang on.

I recently heard ... yet again ... how important it is not only to set marketing goals, but to set them in writing.

Few people would question the importance of setting goals. But research consistently reports that only 3% of the people set goals AND write them down.

Not coincidentally, I keep hearing that 5% of agents are responsible for 95% of real estate transactions.

There is no doubt in my mind that this top 5% have written goals that help them monitor progress...and feel like they are making headway.

Belated thanks for the reminder about goals, Evelyn.

We just cannot overemphasize the importance of setting marketing goals and writing them down.
