Know-how Is More Than

Information & Knowledge

Know-how: understanding how to do something efficiently

Know-how helps you apply knowledge...smoothly and efficiently...to achieve your desired results.

Information, Knowledge & Know-how

Information
is objective data or recorded details concerning a specific fact subject or event.

For example, it has been objectively proven that if you strike a properly placed nail with a hard instrument, you can push the nail into a wooden surface.

This data is information.

Similarly, for more than a decade, it has widely demonstrated...and details recorded...how computer technology can be used to simplify the completion of many tasks.

This data and the recorded details also represent information.

Knowledge represents understanding how information can be applied.

Among the huge variety of hard instruments...a hammer is probably the best choice for pounding nails. This illustrates the application of information about pushing a nail into a wooden surface.

From a work work perspective, knowledge is understanding that specific computer technology can help you in your work.

Know-how is understanding how to do something smoothly and efficiently.

It's understanding how to pound nails smoothly...using as little energy and effort as possible.

It's also understanding how to effectively apply computer technology to achieve better results in your work.

Gaining Knowledge

Today's information-rich world offers virtually unlimited sources of information.

The problem is not finding information.

The real challenge is in finding information that you can apply...to achieve your goals and also serve your clients.

If you come across information that will help you achieve your goals and also serve clients...great.

Go ahead and convert this information into knowledge...and figure out how you will apply it smoothly and efficiently in your work.

It's also good if you come across information that will either help you succeed or serve clients better. Do whatever it takes to make this new knowledge work for you.

If however new information is not obviously applicable to your situation, don't try to make it fit.

Enjoy its novelty...perhaps filing it away for future reference...but don't try to make it fit your situation just because you like it.

Another way of gaining knowledge is from experience...both your own experience and the experience of others.

The following e-books will help you learn from the experience of high producing agents:
  • Working Smart summarizes strategies that successful agents apply to work smarter and not harder to achieve their desired results.
  • Astute Marketing summarizes strategies that successful agents apply to attract clients instead of chasing leads.
  • Generating Referrals summarizes strategies that high-producing agents apply to generate more referrals and more new business....and succeed.

Developing Know-how

Just as action helps you achieve your goals, it also helps you develop know-how.

Simply knowing that a hammer is the best choice for pounding nails will not push the nail into the wood...you must use the hammer.

And the more you use the hammer, the more smoothly and efficiently you will pound nails into wood...using as little energy and effort as possible.

The same considerations apply to effectively converting knowledge into know-how.

It is not enough to know that tools like computer technology can help you...you must use these tools smoothly and efficiently.

You learn this know-how by taking action to apply specific knowledge...then tracking your results...and continuing to improve.

A Competitive Advantage That Attracts Clients

Realistically, your competitors have access to the same market information that you do.

They probably also have access to the same...or similar...marketing knowledge as you.

It is however neither information or knowledge that distinguishes you from the competition and attract clients.

It is how you apply common knowledge that enables you to satisfy clients.

In other words, your know-how distinguishes you from the competition...it helps you attract more clients...and achieve desired results for your clients...and also for yourself.
