5 Ways To Develop A Positive Attitude

A positive attitude overcomes the fear of failure and helps you achieve your goals.

1. Start each day positively

Early morning is my favorite time of day.

Maybe it's because I really enjoy new beginnings and the opportunities they offer.

Perhaps it's the transition from dark stillness to the energizing effect of light and activity.

Or it might even be because I have weird biorhythms that energize me in the early morning.

It doesn't really matter...for whatever reason, I am highly energized and positive first thing in the morning.

More often than not, this positiveness helps carry me through the day.

Other people start their days with activities that please and energize them ...things like walking, exercising, meditating, and so on.

These people confirm what consistently productive and successful people already know...if you start your day positively, it's easier to maintain an upbeat attitude positive for the rest of the day.

If your morning routine gets your day off to a frantic and frenzied start, try something different.

Starting tomorrow, plan your day so that you can spend the first half hour of each as 'personal time'.

Devote this 30 minutes to doing something that meets the 3-P test:

Personal...you do it alone
Pleasing...it pleases you
Positive...it leaves you feeling good

After your 30 minutes of 3-P time, continue with your normal daytime activities.

At the end of the day, think about your day...considering what effect your personal time had on your overall enthusiasm and productivity for the rest of the day.

Repeat this process for a week.

After 7 days, your 3-P time will  probably become part of your daily plan.

2. Learn how to assess your attitude

A positive attitude does not just happen out of the blue.

It is usually the result of a pleasing incident. think positve

The next time you are enjoying the experience of feeling good, take a few minutes and think about what you are feeling good about.

Specifically, what happened...the feel-good incident...that resulted in your positive attitude?

Once you know what happened, identify what you contributed to the feel-good incident. How did you help bring about an incident that resulted in your feeling good?

Once you have contributed to a feel-good incident, you can do it again...and help yourself develop a more positive attitude.

3. Address problems when they arise

Problems, whether professional or personal, are inevitable.

While everyone experiences problems from time to time, no one looks forward to them.

Each and every problem shares a basic truth: resolving the problem can be a positive learning experience.

To maximize problem-solving learning potential, ask yourself the following questions:

1. What did I do that contributed to this problem?
Problems do not just happen...somebody does something to bring them about.

What did I do, or not do, that allowed the problem to develop?

2. What is the worst that could happen if I do nothing?

Some...but not all...problems will disappear on their own.

It is your responsibility to know the difference and take appropriate action on those problems that need your intervention.

3. How can I resolve the problem in such a way that will best help me achieve my goals?

Intelligent optimists are highly motivated to achieve their goals and will try to resolve issues that will not only solve the problem...but also help them achieve their goals.

4. What am I going to change to minimize the likelihood of a similar problem occurring in the future?

How can you apply what you have learned...and get better at what you do..to prevent similar problems?

4. Focus on achieving your goals

Problem-solving can consume a huge amount of time and energy.

Important as it is, problem-solving is not and should not be the most important activity in your business.

Your top priority is and should remain achieving your goals...bringing about your desired results.

Regardless of any obstacles that may arise, that is your primary focus. In the overall scheme of running your business, solving problems are simply mid-course corrections on your journey to success.

5. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative

By maintaining a positive attitude, you are more likely to attract positive energy.

Not only will this positive energy help you keep moving forward...it will also help others maintain their positive feelings.

Unfortunately, negativity is the central force in the lives of many people.

Instead of rejoicing in individual and group achievements, they bemoan their own lack of success and the failures of others.

Negative energy tends to diminish a positive attitude more than positive energy improves a negative attitude.

Whenever possible, minimize dealings with negative people...inevitably, they will drain more from you than you can help them.

Certainly many factors...such as your beliefs, honesty and imagination...combine to contribute to your success.

However, a positive attitude, or optimism is what will ultimately lead you to success.

For many people, the fear of failure is so great that they are unable to take action to realize their goals.

However, your optimism overcomes the fear of failure...and helps you achieve the the results you seek.
