Setting Goals And Achieving Them ...Effectively And EfficientlySetting goals and achieving them is all about effective planning...and vice versa.Dreams Are Good... Goals Are BetterWhatever the results you desire ...in your personal or work life...they all start with a dream. In our dreams we have the opportunity to preview what life will like when we achieve our desired results. Our dreams help us to visualize what it will be like living our ideal lifestyle, enjoying the life we want to live...the life we have created for ourselves. These visions serve as destinations for us....drawing us towards the outcomes we seek. Our dreams can also inspire and motivate us, encouraging us to continue working hard to achieve our desired results. As important as our dreams are, they do have one serious flaw...they are not self-fulfilling. Just because we can dream about...and even visualize our desired results...it does not mean that our desired results will magically and automatically appear right out of the blue. In order for our
dreams to serve as beacons or targets, they must be
converted into clear concise goals.
Without a doubt it's fun to dream of visiting Europe or China. Our dreams help us feel good about where we want to go and what we want to achieve. But setting as a goal...like visiting a specific destination such as Paris or Beijing...is more likely to lead you the arrivals area of the airport. It is our goals..based on our dreams...that start the process of getting us to where we want to be. Top Goals Are Better When Recorded In WritingAnother significant difference between dreams and goal is how they are recorded...if they are in fact recorded.Good goals get even better when they are recorded in written form. ![]() Like dreams, unwritten goals remain tucked away in our imagination...as pleasant visions of what we would like. Written goals are more than ideas scribbled down a piece of paper. They need to be complete and focused. Ideally they will be as detailed as a road map. Why a road map? Because that is exactly the purpose that goals...as recorded in your plan...serve. In effect, your goals are your road map for your journey to succcess. Top |
