A Vision Board Shows

What Your Success Looks Like

vision:  anticipating what you would like to have happen

A vision board contains images of what you would like to achieve.

This helps you see what your goals will look like when you achieve them.

Visualization

From the beginning of time, people have visualized what they want in their lives.

When our cave-dwelling ancestors thought about eating, they visualized animals whose meat would be their meals.

Today, if you want the most recent i-phone competitor, all you have to do is check today's print or online media...and within a very few minutes you will have an instant vision of what you want.

Seeing the results that you would like  is really quite a simple process.

Using your imagination, you create a clear image of a result or outcome that you desire...in any aspect of your life...whether business or personal.

As you continue to focus on your image of these results...and work to achieve them..your desired results will gradually become a reality.

That's the good news about developing imagining what you want in life.

The bad news is that not everyone can can create a mental image what they desire.

And many people who can create the image...have trouble converting their visions into results.

In both cases, these people probably face the same obstacle: visualization is an abstract almost hypothetical process...but they need something more concrete or 'real'.

Instead of imagining something...or seeing it with their 'mind's eye', they need to see it with their physical eye.

A Vision Board

Regardless of whether you can or cannot imagine the results you want to achieve...a vision board can help you succeed.

In it's simplest form...which is frequently the best... this board is a paper, cork or similar board to which which you images of what you would like to achieve.

Here's a sample of such a board:

The rationale is as simple as the board itself.

When you regularly see images of what you want in your life, your life will start to reflect these images.

To learn more about these boards and for a great tip on creating one of your own, check out the Accelerate Me! website...a great source of self-improvement tips and information.

Converting My 'Bulletin' Board

Once I learning about the concept of vision boards, I decided to convert what I callwd a bulletin board into such a board.

bulletin boardAt the time, there were 33 separate items on this board...but not one of them could be classified as anything resembling a 'brief account or statement'...also known as a 'bulletin'.

Realistically my board should have been called a 'stick-it-somewhere-for-now' board ... because that was the purpose it served.

The image on the right is my board in its pre-conversion state.

What was interesting about the items stuck on this board was that except for the future dates on the calendar... every single thing represented something from the past.

And many of these items were so insignificant that I could not remember why I kept them, let alone stuck them on this board.

It took me just over a month to convert the board into my own vision board.

I followed the advice from the Accelerate Me! website, but customized it to reflect my own situation.

Each day I replaced one item on the board with an image of something I desire in my life.

The image below is my new-look board.

At the very least, I had expected to clear away some very visually distracting clutter.

Happily I achieved that result...and much, much more.

The de-cluttering stimulated my newly created Zen-like work environment.

As always happens when I let go of stuff, I found the conversion both liberating and energizing.

I also quickly realized that the images of the results that I want to acheive are powerful motivators...and equally powerful points of reference.

If for example, I can use the vision board to help me assess the value of what whatever I may be doign or thinking of doing.

If my actions will contribute to te achievement of any image on my board...I will continue the actions, confident that my actions will help me achieve desired results.

On the other hand, if my actions do not help contribue to achieving my goals...there is no reason for me to continue doing these things.

Similarly, when I stared working on my Zen-like work environment, I found that the images were also useful in deteriming what item to keep...and what to pitch.

Essentially, any physical item that contributed to achieving one or more images on my board was a keeper...otherwise...out it went.

It is truly amazing how few of the physical things that I kept make any contribution to achieving my goals.

I am just as happy to be free of my 'stick-it-somewhere-for-now' board as I am to  get rid the cluttter that I allowed to collect and reflect the disarray on the old board.

What Will Your Board Look Like?

Obviously your board will contain images that represent your goals...the results that you would like to achieve.

What are your goals?

Ideally, your goals are clear enough that you have a mental image of what they will look like once achieved.

If your goals are vague..or even non-existent...it's a good idea to revisit and revise your plans.

Once your goals are clear... you can get on with creating your own board.

To find images online, go to Google Images. You can download and print these images to add to your board.
